Grand Hotel Royal, Viareggio

Grand Hotel Royal is housed in an original Art-Nouveau building with marble floors, wooden panelling, and high ceilings dating to the early 1900s. The 4-star hotel offers rooms with sea views, satellite TV, and private bathrooms, some featuring balconies overlooking the Ligurian Sea. Each room includes a safety deposit box, kettle, and wardrobe, with housekeeping providing daily cleaning service.

A daily American breakfast is served in the main dining room, offering fresh fruits, pastries, eggs, bacon, and a make-your-own waffle station. The hotel operates 2 restaurants, including a pool bar that serves lunch with salads, sandwiches, and pizza, and an outdoor dining area for evening meals with a 4-course set menu. Guests on half board order their evening meal at breakfast, with wine from the previous night saved at their assigned table.

The seasonal outdoor swimming pool is a large, deep pool surrounded by a garden with sun loungers and umbrellas, and includes a shallow end for children. Guests receive a ticket for sunbeds and umbrellas at Bagno Annita, a private beach area directly across the road, with its own bar and restaurant. On-site recreation includes table tennis, bicycle rental, and a golf course, while the pool bar offers cocktails and snacks from 12:00 to 18:30.

The hotel provides babysitting and child services, strollers, and family rooms, with a cot, baby bath, and changing table available upon request. Business facilities include meeting and banquet rooms, plus fax and photocopying services, while concierge and currency exchange are handled at the 24-hour front desk. Additional conveniences include electric vehicle charging station, airport shuttle service, car hire, and luggage storage.

The hotel sits directly on the Viareggio beachfront, a 20-minute walk from Viareggio train station, offering easy 30-minute train rides to Lucca and Pisa. Florence is reachable in 90 minutes by train, and the Cinque Terre via La Spezia.
